Bridges After-School Program

About the Program

A key current partnership between the city and SJUSD is the Bridges After-School Program. Bridges After-School Program provides a safe, enrichment oriented environment for students in grades 1 - 6 at the elementary schools and grades 7 - 8 at Sylvan Middle School. The program is designed to supplement the school day learning experience and also provide time for homework assistance and recreation.

The city began its partnership with SJUSD in 2002 when seed funds were provided by the city for a trial program at 1 elementary school. The trial program was then expanded to 6 Citrus Heights schools with the city funding a portion of the start-up costs. Using the model that was established, SJUSD successfully competed for funds through the 21st Century Community Learning Centers (21CCLC) Grant and the After School Education and Safety (ASES) Grant to expand the after-school program in Citrus Heights and to introduce it throughout the district.
