Common Types of Inspections
Foundation Inspections
Foundation inspections are made after excavations for footings are complete and any required reinforcing steel is in place. For concrete foundations, any required forms shall be in place prior to inspection.
All materials for the foundation shall be on the job. An exception is concrete materials that are ready mixed in accordance with approved nationally recognized standards. If a foundation will be constructed with approved treated wood, additional inspections may be required by the building official.
Concrete Slab or Under-Floor Inspections
Concrete slab or under-floor inspections are conducted after all in-slab or under-floor building service equipment, conduit, piping accessories, and other ancillary equipment items are in place, but before any concrete is placed or floor sheathing installed, including the sub-floor.
Frame Inspections
Frame inspections are conduced after the roof, all framing, fire blocking, and bracing are in place and all pipes, chimneys, and vents are complete and the rough electrical, plumbing and heating wires, pipes and ducts are approved.
Lath or Gypsum Board Inspection
These inspections are conducted after all lathing and gypsum board, interior and exterior is in place, but before any plastering is applied or before gypsum board joints and fasteners are taped and finished.
Final Inspections
Final inspections are conducted after finish grading and the building is completed and ready for occupancy.

Plumbing inspections can include the following:
- Rough plumbing/DWV
- Ground plumbing
- Water service
- Sewer test
- Gas test
- Gas meter tag
- Water heater
- Final
Mechanical Inspections
Mechanical inspections can include the following:
- Rough mechanical
- Underfloor
- Fireplace/insert
- Ducting
- HVAC
- Final
Electrical Inspections
Electrical inspections can include the following:
- Rough electrical
- Underground
- Temporary power
- Ground/bonding/ufer
- Sub panel
- Service panel change out
- Meter tag
- Final
