Home Vegetable Gardening
The Sacramento Region is conducive to growing many types of fruits and vegetables in both winter and summer seasons. Do you want to save money, eat healthy and enjoy tasty fruits and veggies all while reducing your greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions? Home vegetable gardening is one of the best ways to accomplish all these tasks at the same time. Gardening is a great way for families to get outside together and burns calories while you prepare and tend to your garden.
A home garden will ensure you are eating locally - you can't get more local than your own backyard! By eating locally, harmful emissions generated from transporting produce are avoided. You can also control what goes into the soil and water you feed your plants to reduce the risk of harmful pesticides and other harmful substances. Furthermore, most home gardeners attest homegrown fruits and veggies taste better than those commercially available. Don't have room at home to grow a garden? Consider joining the Community Garden conveniently located at San Juan Avenue and Stock Ranch Road.
