Fire District Reviews

Receiving Fire District Approval

Fire and emergency medical response are provided by Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District within the boundaries of Citrus Heights. The city works very closely with the district to ensure fire prevention and protection services are met.

Many construction projects also require the approval of the Fire District. It is important that you contact the Fire District at 916-859-4300 to verify if your project will require fire submittal and approval prior to submitting to the Building and Safety Division.

Common Projects

Common projects that require Fire District approval are:

  • Commercial tenant improvements
  • New single-family dwellings
  • Residential construction greater than 3,600 square feet
  • Residential construction or additions that are greater than 150 feet from a public roadway
  • Residential care facility improvements

Submitting Plans for Review

It is the responsibility of the applicant to submit 3 sets of plans to the Fire District. Submitting plans solely to the Building and Safety Division does not meet the requirements for the Fire District. There must be a separate submittal.

Plan Review Process

The plan review time for the Fire District is typically longer than the review time with the Building and Safety Division. It is recommended that you submit to the Fire District prior to submitting to the Building and Safety Division.

Building permits will not be released without an approved set of fire plans and a copy of the assigned fire job card.

Additional Information

You are encouraged to contact Fire Prevention Community Services if you have questions or would like to set an appointment to go over your plan submittal.
