Auburn Boulevard Complete Streets Phase 2

The Boulevard Plan, adopted in 2005, set the framework for developing the Auburn Boulevard Corridor from Sylvan Corners to the northern city limits. 

The Auburn Blvd Project is the City’s largest public works project. Phase I of the Project accomplished a complete update of the corridor from Sylvan Corners to Rusch Park in 2014. 

Phase 2 of the Project will extend this vision of a safer, updated roadway with enhanced amenities for all users (pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists) north to Orlando Avenue in Roseville. 85% of Phase 2 construction is funded by non-general funds, including grants awarded from SACOG grant, Regional Program grant, and Regional ATP grant.

The Auburn Blvd Phase 2 project will encompass the following elements of work:

• Undergrounding of overhead utility lines
• Installation of bicycle lanes and wide sidewalks
• Upgrading traffic signals to meet current standards
• Increasing safety and visibility through decorative street lighting
• Beautifying the corridor with new landscaping and trees
• Replacement of old storm drain infrastructure
• Installation of a new asphalt layer for smooth driving
• Enhancing transit stops for ADA compliance
• Providing a unique identity through the use of a welcome gateway structure

The design portion of the project is complete. The City is working with Psomas Engineering who will be providing construction management and inspection services for the duration of the project. 

We are also working on utility coordination with Sacramento Municipal Utility District (SMUD), Comcast, Consolidated Communications (CCI), Pacific Gas & Electric (PG&E), and Citrus Heights Water District (CHWD).

Construction began in July 2024 and is expected to be complete in Fall 2026. Geroge Reed Inc is performing the construction work for this project.
