City of Citrus Heights Provides Update on Sunrise Tomorrow Specific Plan Progress
New FAQ Resource Now Available to the Public
The City of Citrus Heights today released a new Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) resource to provide the community, businesses, and stakeholders with the latest information on the Sunrise Tomorrow Specific Plan and the future of the 100-acre Sunrise Mall site.
Since the adoption of the Sunrise Tomorrow Specific Plan in 2021, the City has taken significant steps to position the site for redevelopment. Actions include the completion of infrastructure planning, environmental clearance, flexible entitlements, and the approval of a tentative parcel map and Development Agreement to better facilitate investment opportunities. Guided by the Specific Plan framework, interim improvements are also underway, including the addition of a Montessori school and a new electric vehicle (EV) charging station, as the City actively engages in hotel recruitment discussions to attract a quality hospitality partner to the site.
“The Sunrise Tomorrow vision remains active and central to Citrus Heights’ long-term economic and community development strategy,” said City Manager Ash Feeney. “We are committed to transparency, proactive leadership, and ensuring the site evolves into a vibrant, mixed-use destination that benefits our entire community.”
The new FAQ addresses common questions about the project’s timeline, property ownership, site conditions, recent Council actions, and community involvement opportunities. It also clarifies the City's ongoing efforts to ensure property standards and support the long-term revitalization of the site.
