Citrus Heights, Ca. – The Citrus Heights Police Department would like to apologize for the inconvenience caused by our recent use of the citizen emergency alert notification system on January 27, 2015 between 10:30 pm and 11:00 pm. This mass notification system utilizes traditional landline/hardline phones to notify the community of emergency situations.
At approximately 10:30 pm, the Citrus Heights Police Department utilized the citizen emergency alert notification system concerning an “At Risk” missing person. The system was utilized to notify the public of a missing elderly Citrus Heights resident, who was at risk due to suffering from dementia. The notification resulted in the Citrus Heights Police Communications Center receiving several calls from concerned citizens regarding potential sightings of the missing elderly man. The resident was located later in the evening by law enforcement personnel, in good health, and safely returned to his residence.
The Citrus Heights Police Department launched the citizen emergency alert notification system in April 2014. This is a citizen alert system serving the City of Citrus Heights and other communities within the Counties of Placer – Sacramento – Yolo.
Recently, another Citrus Heights resident who walked away from home was successfully located because an alert citizen had received the information via the emergency notification system. The combination of the alert system and engaged community members reduces the resources used by law enforcement on these types of critical calls, as well as decreases the time it takes to safely locate the missing individual.
The notification system is a vital tool used by local law enforcement agencies to provide important and timely information to the public. We rely heavily on our residents and business community members to help us day or night. Unfortunately, emergencies can occur 24 hours a day and seven days a week. Through well-timed and practical communication we will be able to continue to provide our community with a high level of responsive police services.
