City Council Elections
The City of Citrus Heights consolidates its General Municipal Election with the statewide election held in even-numbered years. Citrus Heights’ next regularly-scheduled election will be held on November 5, 2024.
Under Citrus Heights’ district-based election system, voters will elect one council member for the district they are registered in. Seats up for election in November 2024 are Districts 1 and 3. City Council Districts 2, 4 and 5 were elected in the November 2022 elections cycle.
The Council selects one of its members to serve as mayor and vice mayor for a period of 12 months. Additional information is available on the Transitioning to District Based Elections webpage.

Running for Office / Candidate Qualifications
If you are interested in running for public office in the City of Citrus Heights, you must meet the following requirements:
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be a citizen of the United States and a resident of the State of California
- Must be a registered voter in, and a resident in, the District in which he or she seeks election at the time nomination papers are issued

On or after July 15, 2024, nomination papers for the office of City Council will be available at the City Clerk's office. All completed nomination papers must be filed with the City Clerk no later than 5 p.m. on August 9, 2024. Voter Registration
A person, 18 years of age or older and not imprisoned or on parole for the conviction of a felony, may register to vote at anytime. Registration is permanent, and a new affidavit of registration need only be executed if you have changed your name, address, or wish to change your political party affiliation. Voter registration forms are available at City Hall, the County Registrar of Voters Office, or online through the California Secretary of State.
Citrus Heights has 49,656 registered voters as of February 20, 2024.
